Officer’s Visor Cap

HOLD

Constructed of thick grey-blue Mützen-Trikot (cap tricot) with a twill weave (Körperbindung) pattern of parallel running ribs. The cap features a traditional high peak crown with silver aluminum bullion piping along the entire crown , as well as the top and bottom edge of the 37 mm wide black interwoven cap band. The visor is made of black vukanfiber, and is lacquered black on the obverse, and features a green lacquered finish with a squared pattern on the underside, with black leather trim sewn to the edge of the visor. The chin cord is crafted of twisted bullion cords and are attached to the cap via one silver pebbled button on each side. The insignia on the cap consists of a replacement period-original bullion eagle, constructed of rolled, twisted, and flat silver aluminum bullion wires, on a matching grey-blue wool backer. Below the eagle is an bullion wreath and cockade, also constructed of rolled, twisted, and flat silver aluminum bullion wires, on a black backer. The eagle has been previously replaced (stitches are visible on the reverse), but the wreath is original to the cap. The inside of the cap is lined with a pale/light grey silky liner, along with a pale leather sweatband. The cork sweatband under the front of the cap band is mostly missing. The crown portion of the cap once featured a maker's diamond, but it has been removed or lost through time. The cap measures 235 mm (w) x 255 mm (h); in overall better than extremely fine condition.
